Martin 1969 D-45
A long-awaited arrival: Martin's flagship model, the D-45. The "45" designation is reserved only for guitars built from the finest materials available at the time and made exclusively by hand-picked master craftsmen - it remains the true top of the line within Martin to this day.
After a long hiatus following the pre-war era, production resumed in 1968. This example, from 1969, comes from that early reissue period and uses premium materials like German spruce and Brazilian rosewood (Hakaranda) - a truly special instrument that few players ever get to hold.
The top is German spruce, with Brazilian rosewood back and sides, and ebony fingerboard and bridge. It's fitted with original gold Grover Rotomatic tuners. The shine of the abalone inlay gives it the ultimate look every acoustic player dreams of.
The sound is first-class too - brilliant, glossy highs that define what a D-45 should sound like, a deep, weighty low end driven by the square-rod construction, and the lush, long sustain and soft tone unique to Brazilian rosewood.
Considering this guitar has crossed more than half a century since being built in 1969, it's in remarkably beautiful, well-preserved condition. It's clear this instrument has been carefully owned as a true flagship acoustic, and it remains in genuinely healthy condition as a vintage Martin.
