A very rare opportunity for the serious Yamaha collector, FM synthesis enthusiast or vintage synthesizer studio.

Offered for sale is my Yamaha FVX-1 FM Voice Expander, one of Yamaha’s rarest professional FM synthesis modules from the legendary late-1980s era.

The FVX-1 is far more than an ordinary sound module. It is an exceptionally sophisticated 8-operator FM synthesizer/expander, developed by Yamaha for its flagship HX generation and built during the golden age of Yamaha FM synthesis.

The FVX-1 was produced in very small numbers compared with Yamaha’s DX-series synthesizers and is now exceptionally difficult to find, particularly in Europe. Examples appear on the international market only occasionally.

This particular FVX-1 has been very little used and carefully preserved. As the photographs show, its cosmetic condition is exceptional for an instrument of this age. The front panel, original controls, displays, lettering, rack handles and rear connections are remarkably clean and complete.

For collectors of vintage Yamaha equipment, this is a fascinating and increasingly difficult-to-find piece from the company’s most ambitious period of FM synthesis development.
