Vintage 1966 Harmony H-15 Bobkat in sunburst, made in the USA and loaded with its original pair of fantastic-sounding DeArmond gold foil pickups.
This is one of those vintage guitars that immediately reminds you why these old Harmonys have such a following. It’s lightweight, quirky, incredibly fun to play and has a sound and personality all its own.
The DeArmond gold foils are the star of the show. They’re clear and articulate with plenty of vintage bite and character, but there’s also a rawness to them that sounds fantastic when you start pushing an amp. Clean, dirty, blues, garage rock, slide—there are a lot of great sounds in this guitar. It doesn’t sound like another variation on a Strat, Tele or Les Paul. It sounds like an old Harmony with DeArmonds, and that’s exactly what makes it so cool.
The guitar appears to retain its original sunburst finish, DeArmond gold foil pickups, pickguard, bridge, tailpiece, tuners, knobs, switching and wiring. The original Harmony headstock logo and Made in U.S.A. truss rod cover are present.
Electronics: Both pickups work and sound excellent, the pickup selector works, and both volume and tone circuits are functional. As is sometimes the case with original vintage electronics, the controls have some quirks. The neck pickup volume reduces substantially but does not completely mute the pickup at zero. The bridge pickup volume reaches maximum output at approximately 8 and then decreases slightly between 8 and 10. Both tone controls function, although their sweep is somewhat subtle/uneven compared with modern pots.
I’ve chosen to leave the electronics in their original state rather than replace components simply to make the controls behave more like a modern guitar. The guitar sounds excellent as it is, and preserving the original wiring and character seemed preferable to altering a great-sounding vintage circuit. The control behavior described above should therefore be considered part of the guitar’s current condition.
Condition: This is a genuine vintage instrument approximately six decades old and shows honest wear from age and use. There is finish checking, scratching, edge wear, small chips/dings and general cosmetic wear throughout. Hardware shows age and patina, and the tuner buttons show normal aging.
Please review the photos carefully. I’ve intentionally included detailed shots of the finish, edges, neck joint, headstock, tuners, hardware and other areas so the condition can be evaluated accurately.
This isn’t a pristine collector-piece Bobkat. It’s a played-in, character-filled vintage Harmony that sounds absolutely killer. If the appeal of these guitars for you is the DeArmond gold foils, old-school construction and unmistakable 1960s sound and feel, this one delivers.
The guitar will be carefully packed for shipping.
