PRS SE Hollowbody I Piezo – Lake Blue (S/N: CTIH093536)

Includes PRS Padded Gig Bag

Some guitars are versatile because they offer a lot of variations on the same basic sound. The PRS SE Hollowbody I Piezo goes considerably further—it gives you two fundamentally different ways to approach the instrument.

A pair of PRS 85/15 “S” humbuckers delivers the electric side of the equation, while the integrated LR Baggs/PRS Piezo system adds an acoustic-style voice that can be used independently or blended with the magnetic pickups. Wrap all of that inside PRS's new slimmer flatback hollowbody construction, finish it in beautiful Lake Blue, and you have one remarkably capable instrument.

At Northeast Music Center, this is a guitar we'd point toward the player who wants genuine hollowbody resonance and piezo versatility but still wants an instrument that feels comfortable and familiar coming from a solidbody electric.

The New Flatback Hollowbody Design

One of the most important features of the Hollowbody I is something you'll notice before you ever plug it in.

The flatback design is slimmer and contoured to sit comfortably against the player's body, giving the instrument a more familiar electric-guitar feel than a traditional carved-back hollowbody.

That's an important distinction.

You still get the open, responsive character players want from a hollowbody, but PRS has packaged that resonance into an instrument that feels natural for someone accustomed to playing solidbody electrics.

An internal center block helps support sustain and manage feedback while maintaining the lively response of the hollowbody construction.

It's a clever combination—and one that gives the Hollowbody I a distinct identity within the PRS family.

Lake Blue – Elegant Without Being Overstated

The Lake Blue finish gives this particular guitar a completely different personality from the warmer burst finishes in the Hollowbody I lineup.

The cool blue coloration works beautifully with the figured flame maple veneer, allowing the figuring to move underneath the finish as the guitar catches the light.

Cream binding provides a crisp contrast around the body and neck, while the rosewood fretboard, PRS bird inlays, nickel hardware and classic F-holes complete the look.

It's refined rather than flashy.

And for a guitar capable of covering both electric and acoustic territory, we think the understated elegance of Lake Blue fits the Hollowbody I especially well.

85/15 “S” Humbuckers – Your Electric Side

When you want this guitar to behave like an electric, it does.

PRS 85/15 “S” Treble and Bass humbuckers provide clarity, definition, and a wide frequency response that works particularly well with the natural resonance of the hollowbody construction.

The controls remain refreshingly straightforward.

A 3-way toggle selects:

  • Bridge Humbucker
  • Bridge + Neck Humbuckers
  • Neck Humbucker

From articulate clean chords and warm jazz textures to blues, classic rock and expressive lead sounds, the magnetic pickups provide a strong electric foundation.

But that's only one side of this guitar.

LR Baggs/PRS Piezo – Bring in the Acoustic Voice

Built into the PRS Adjustable Stoptail Piezo bridge are six individual piezo-equipped saddles working with proprietary LR Baggs/PRS electronics.

Rather than relying on the magnetic pickups to imitate an acoustic guitar, the piezo system captures the strings directly from the bridge to produce an entirely different tonal character.

The Hollowbody I gives you separate Magnetic Volume and Piezo Volume controls, allowing you to decide exactly how those two systems interact.

Use the 85/15 “S” pickups by themselves for a conventional electric sound.

Bring up the piezo for acoustic-style textures.

Or blend the two together.

That's where this guitar can become particularly creative.

Adding just enough piezo to a clean magnetic sound can introduce additional attack and dimension. Push the blend toward the piezo and the character changes dramatically.

For live performance and recording, those possibilities can be extremely useful.

One Guitar – Two Signal Paths

The dual-output system takes that versatility another step further.

Use the Mix/Piezo output when you want to combine the magnetic and piezo systems through a single signal chain.

Or separate them.

The magnetic pickups can be routed to an electric guitar amp, pedalboard or modeler while the piezo signal is simultaneously sent to an acoustic amplifier, DI, PA system or separate recording channel.

That means you can build a rig where one physical guitar is feeding two completely different signal paths.

For a working musician moving between electric and acoustic-style parts during the same performance, that can be a major advantage.

Wide Fat Neck & 25" PRS Scale

PRS pairs the Hollowbody I with its Wide Fat neck profile, which we think is particularly well suited to this instrument.

There's enough substance in the neck to feel solid in the hand, but the familiar 25" PRS scale length keeps string tension comfortable.

The rosewood fretboard features a 10" radius, 22 frets and PRS bird inlays, providing an excellent platform for chord work, fingerstyle playing, blues, jazz, rhythm playing and expressive lead work.

For players who prefer a neck with some substance rather than an ultra-thin carve, the Wide Fat profile is a real advantage.

A Hollowbody Built for the Modern Electric Player

The SE Hollowbody I Piezo doesn't ask you to choose between electric versatility and hollowbody character.

That's the point.

The flatback construction provides the resonance and openness of a hollowbody while giving the instrument a slimmer, more familiar feel against the player. The 85/15 “S” humbuckers cover your electric-guitar territory, while the LR Baggs/PRS Piezo system opens an entirely different acoustic-style voice.

Use either system independently.

Blend them together.

Or send them to separate rigs.

That's a tremendous amount of flexibility from one guitar.

For the gigging musician, studio player, songwriter, worship player, or guitarist who simply wants one instrument capable of handling an unusually wide range of sounds, the Hollowbody I Piezo deserves a close look.

And this individual Lake Blue example has an elegant appearance that sets it apart without overpowering the instrument itself.

This PRS SE Hollowbody I Piezo in Lake Blue, serial number CTIH093536, is available now at Northeast Music Center and includes its PRS padded gig bag.
