Fz Pedals Fuzz Face "Point To Point" Wiring

This is a hand-built pedal based on the classic two-transistor Fuzz Face topology, featuring true point-to-point wiring. It is not locked to a single “year-correct” clone. Instead, the defining variable is yours: choose your preferred silicon or germanium transistor set, and we will do the matching and biasing so each set operates in a proper, musical range.

Point-to-point / air-wired build: Discrete components wired by hand rather than relying on large PCB traces—service-friendly and easy to fine-tune.

Discrete + hand-soldered: Hand assembly with wiring/soldering inspected piece by piece.

Biasing philosophy: We match and bias around each transistor set’s gain and noise/leakage behavior to deliver consistent dynamics and proper cleanup.

Silicon sets are generally more stable, more immediate, with higher gain and brighter edge available, and less temperature-sensitive. Differences between models often show up in noise floor, gain distribution, and top-end texture (final results still depend on matching and biasing).

BC108C: A classic “silicon Fuzz Face” direction—easy to get strong output, bite, and defined grain.

BC183C: A common alternative that often balances thickness/mid density with clarity.

BC107B / BC109B: Same broad family direction; the feel changes with gain grouping and bias—ideal for players who want a more controllable range from cleanup to edge-breakup to full fuzz.

Germanium’s appeal is in the softer compression, stickier mids, and a more vintage-textured edge, plus the highly interactive dynamics with pick attack and guitar volume. Germanium devices naturally vary and are more temperature-sensitive, so you get more “alive” unit-to-unit individuality—part of the germanium fuzz charm.

As a historic fuzz platform, the Fuzz Face family has been used widely and evolved into many silicon and germanium directions. We keep this strictly model-level: choosing your transistor set is effectively choosing a tonal era/feel, rather than claiming a single fixed year clone.

When ordering, please specify your transistor preference (BC108C / BC183C / BC107B / BC109B / Soviet germanium). We’ll match and bias accordingly to bring out the most representative character of that direction.
