Unknown Brand Super Distortion Clone Humbucker - Possibly 1980's - 2000's - Double Black Bobbins - Single Humbucker

Used unknown brand DiMarzio Super Distortion clone - double black bobbins with double row of hex pole pieces. Possibly Made in Japan.

I bought this pickup from Japan, not in a guitar, and it's unmarked, so I can't say what brand or model it is, or what guitar (if any) it was removed from, or the age, but it is very similar in nearly all aspects to the 80's-2000's era Gotoh Super Distortion clones that many Japanese brands used during that time.

Judging by the lead colours and wires used, I would guess it was Fernandes/Burny or Yamaha, both of which used unmarked humbuckers for a time - but it could be something completely different.

I haven't removed the tape around the bobbins on this specific pickup, so I don't know for sure, but based on the thickness of it, I would guess it's similar to the double thick ceramic magnets used in the Super Distortion clones. It's really hard to see the magnet down under the bobbins, but when I shine a light on it, it does look black/charcoal in colour and not metallic, indicating a ceramic magnet.

The DC resistance measures 11.79k ohms (from black/ground/shield to the brown wire) - so very similar to the Gotoh Super Distortion clones of this time.

It does have a 4 wire lead - right now setup for standard humbucker - but it could be split so you can use either coil on it's own or you could wire it in parallel or series or add a dual sound switch to do so - the options are yours. I have not removed the shrink wrap on the red/orange wires to measure each coil's resistance (if you want/need me to, just let me know).

The lead wire is just shy of about 10" long.

The pole spacing is around 50mm, so could be used in either bridge or neck position.

The pickup is in good players grade shape, although there's some slight rusting/corrosion on the pole pieces, and the bobbins have some scuffs/nicks here and there, but it has a vintage patina to it as is.

It doesn't look like it ever had cover installed on it.
