6 Tips for Selling Gear Faster on Reverb

With our biggest holiday season ever just around the corner, we wanted to pass on some tips to make sure you're making the most of the opportunity to buy and sell your gear.

These tips aren't just for the big brick-and-mortar stores. The vast majority of sellers on Reverb aren't trying to make a living from selling gear, they're just looking for a good way to fund their next big purchase.

Last month, every item that sold took an average of just seven days to sell. And while there are dozens of things our top sellers do to help sell their gear is selling quickly, here are a few insights from Reverb's top stores that any seller will find useful.

1. Be Searchable

When you list a product for sale on Reverb, we ask for the make, model, and category of the product. That's not just for our records, it's how we build out our search pages, which is the most popular way shoppers find what they're looking for on Reverb. Take a second to double-check your listing and make sure you're showing up in the right places.

2. Use the Reverb Price Guide

We're all pretty proud of our Price Guide here at Reverb — it's an amazing source for finding out how much people are getting for their gear. Two minutes there can help take the guesswork out of how much to charge.

3. Buy a Bump

Reverb Bump is an option available to every seller to get preferred placements within our search results, our handpicked sets of gear and our front page. It definitely gets gear moving — in the past 90 days, Bumped products sold 23% faster than gear without Bump. It's also really affordable — typically just a couple bucks for a pedal, for instance. 4. Presentation Matters

When it comes to some of the more popular items on Reverb, it can be tough to make sure your listings stand out, but there are plenty of ways to differentiate yourself as a seller. You can add value with things like:

  • videos
  • a good return policy
  • good photos

Reverb buyers like to see the item they're actually going to buy — not a press shot with a giant watermark and a white background. Pictures of the box, of the item in use and detailed shots of the elements that real gearheads care most about will get people clicking "Add to Cart."

Although these tips are intended to be constructive, we do recommend against crowding your item titles with crazy claims, ALL CAPS, or details that should be in the listing. It can come off as spammy.

5. Turn Messages into Offers

Buyers on Reverb are attentive and won't hesitate to ask questions about pedals, guitars or keyboards. If you've answered their questions, but they haven't replied back, you can send them an offer through messages. You can sweeten the deal by a few dollars — it's not a sure thing that they'll take it, but conversations between buyers and sellers are a great way to get to a sale.

6. Price Drop

If you've listed your gear for a while but nobody is buying, you should consider dropping the price. Any time an item listed for more than a day gets a price drop of more than 10%, it automatically goes into our Price Drops listings, which is one of the most popular pages on the site, and gets a discount badge.

There are other ways to make sure you can get the most out of selling on Reverb, like joining our Preferred Seller program to be part of exclusive sales. But these 6 tips are just as helpful whether you're working on your 100th sale or your first.
