The premise of Gibson's Collector's Choice series is to optimally recreate the most prized examples from the brand's rich history. This is also true for this Les Paul #13 1959 'Spoonful Burst'; a guitar based on a Les Paul with a story all its own, and it has been recreated down to the smallest detail. Only 300 copies of this guitar were built, of which this guitar is #150.

The Les Paul that served as inspiration for this Collector's Choice is a 1959 model that was used for almost the entire career by John Sebastian, frontman of the band The Lovin' Spoonful and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 2000. The band became famous for hits like 'Summer in the City' and 'Daydream', songs that later inspired many artists.

Sebastian became the owner of this famous guitar in the winter of 1964-1965 after it was brought from Florida to New York, Sebastian's birthplace and home base, by Skip Boone. In his later solo career, Sebastian gained fame with an unannounced solo performance at Woodstock in 1969, and later scored a hit with, among others, the number 1 hit 'Welcome Back'.

The 1959 Les Pauls are among the most highly regarded electric guitars in history, and are considered by many to be the pinnacle in this field. Equipped with a mahogany body and neck combined with a maple top, this guitar laid the foundation for Gibson's successful model, which has remained faithful to the same specifications over the years. Weighing just under four kilograms, this guitar can even be considered relatively light.

The humbuckers were made specifically for this guitar and meet the specifications of the original PAF pickups to make it period-correct. Components such as the frets, inlays, and accurately aged hardware are also completely faithful to the original, making this guitar a highly sought-after instrument. The guitar is in excellent condition and comes with a certificate of authenticity in a hardshell case.
