Up for sale, a 1982 Guild X-702 bass in perfect working order, complete with a Coffin hardshell case. The eye-catching lines of this Guild bass could only have come from the early ‘80s, designed for big hair and big riffs.

Featuring a sleek, X-shaped mahogany body with a mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard, this Guild has an inherent warmth and resonance, faithfully captured by the stock pair of DP-8 single coil pickups. These pickups deliver a bevy of Jazz-style tonalities, with ample midrange burp and just enough growl. They’re articulate and immediate, with a pillowy, broad low end, especially with the Tone knob rolled off to taste. This Guild weighs 9lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.

The mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with good shoulder and lightly rolled fretboard edges, gaining appreciably more heft and roundness in the upper registers, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a 9 1/2“ radius, and the stock jumbo fretwire has been leveled and crowned; this bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8“ in width. The headstock shape echoes the lines of the body, and the Guild-stamped tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should.

All of the electronics function as intended; the DP-8 pickups are wired to the stock harness with original CTS pots that date from late 1980-82. Controls include individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The Schaller-made BT-4 bridge has clean chrome plating, robustly built and anchored with two large stoptail studs, also offering the ability to adjust string spacing to the player's preference. Plastics comprise the four-ply black pickguard, and a new piece of pickguard has been crafted and installed at the input jack end. The trio of original knobs have ridged grips for easy on-the-fly adjustments and swells.

Cosmetic wear on the gloss Candy Apple Red finish includes a number of minor dings on the body as a whole, most prominent on the back and at the body points along the perimeter. The neck profile retains its smooth matching gloss, with an area of palm wear through the gloss on the bass-side shoulder at frets 2-3 and a handful of shallow marks along the profile length that have no impact on playability.

A Coffin Case-branded coffin-shaped hardshell case with purple quilted plush interior is included.
