Hagstrom's Alvar is the smaller sized brother of the iconic Viking. Spec-wise, the Alvar is a lot like a traditional ES339; a centre-block maple hollowbody, set maple neck, 24.75" scale, two humbuckers (Hagstrom HJ-50 Alnico-5) and a fixed bridge (with a gorgeous H-logo embedded tailpiece). With it's smaller size, the Alvar sounds distinctively different compared to the larger Viking; expact a brighter, more direct tone and with that, the Alvar has a more forgiving character for those who intent to rock their hollowbody a little heavier...

And just like the Viking, the Alvar might just be one of the best traditional small-sized semi-hollowbody in it's class in terms of quality and details. You see, the Swedish guitarcompany didn't get stuck on to "old-day's glory" but kept on progressing and re-thinking their original designs. And so, you'll find several smart and modern specs on these guitars that make Hagstrom's a true bang for a buck. Apart from the fact that they are simply gorgeous as well. All Hagstrom guitars are currently being produced in Korea at Hagstrom's own production facility.

For the design of the necks, Hagstrom went back to the drawingboard; the maple neck has a so-calles "Resinator" fingerboard. This is a composit wood that has all the properties as ebony wood in term of sound and color, but is superior in terms of density, uniformity and stability. Furthermore, all Hagstrom is fitted with a unique "H-Expander" trussrod; a H-shaped rod that is extremely stiff but lightweight at the same time.
Hagstrom fully understood that a weak link for a lot of guitar below the 1000 EU pricepoint is in fact the neck. Instability leads to uncomfortable playing and maintanance on a regular basis or, worst case scenario, sharp fret-ends due to shrinking of the fretboard. None of all this with Hagstrom!
