4 SALE, AWESOME CHARVEL STRAT! TELL WAYNE, EVH SENT YOU! (Mark Lane)
I’m putting my one owner, custom made, rare “Charvel PrePro” Butcher block guitar up for sale for highest offer - at or above market value. This axe has an awesome story behind it, so I will tell the story in an abridged version. Thanks for reading.
I worked at the Original, Smaller Guitar Center Hollywood(across the street from upgraded one) in the late 70’s/early 80’s. The Van Halen band had an open account at GC, so the guys would come in every so often to buy gear they needed and Eddie Van Halen showed up regularly (because his good friend Jimmy was our Mgr). This time he visited us to check out some amps with the striped frankenstrat boogie Body guitar he bought at Wayne Charvel’s shop.
He let us GC sales guys hold it & check it out and we were like Ed, who gave it this crazy paint job. Ed was proudly saying. “I bought it at Charvel, I wired it up and put it together then set it up so I have a fatter sounding strat. The paint & striping was my idea”. We all were blown away. It was a real killer rock gods guitar and he made it himself!!! I told Ed I was in the market for a new steady Axe so EVH said “Mark, go out and see Wayne and tell him I sent you and if he doesn’t have the time to put it together, I can work on it for you.” “Thanks, I will certainly check out Wayne's shop, Ed,” I said.
Well, That next day off, I drove out to Wayne’s place in Covina because of EVH’s referral. I mentioned that EVH sent me & Wayne gave me the killer VIP treatment. He put together this awesome one-of-a-kind axe for me (one of two rare butcher block bodies shown in Wayne Richard Charvel’s OOP book) with a much slimmer maple flamed Tele neck (He pulled out of a used closet) because my not-so-long fingers prefer a Tele neck profile.
No expense was spared as I decided it would be my main axe for life. When Gary Kahler released the Pro dual bar, locking tremolo With Upgraded Springs, I then had Grover’s team (Wayne sold to Grover) add it on and take off the stock brass one. These are all also original 40+yr old Bill Lawrence hand wound PAF clone pickups & Both hums split via pull up pots. The maple neck has been played and looks like Clapton's Blackie,(which I’ve actually played at Yvonne Elliman's house ) but there is still enough fret meat for years of playing. The rear of this wood guitar looks like the front. Guitar weight is approx 9 lbs. / 14 ozs. I brought it to GC after I bought it and when Ed stopped by to see Jimmy and us, I showed it to him and he thought it was an awesome axe when he tried it out in the store. Ask me any questions/make offers please. I’m getting older, have Arthritis & CT issues. I would enjoy seeing it on stage again with a new loving owner! Show this to Joe Bonamassa, Kingfish, Orianthi, Neal Schon, Tom Morello, Jack White or Derek Trucks if you know them. They’d love it!
Comes with an absolutely beautiful, 40 year old, Reunion Blues Napa Leather, black Electric Guitar Case in nice condition. This $1000 case is extremely rare since Reunion Blues is no longer making leather gig bags - so these cases are getting harder and harder to find. Shipping amount is slightly higher due to it being insured to value, anywhere it ships too. The YouTube link is a band I played my Charvel with some time ago and they loved my tone so much they asked me to double my solo length! Thank you kindly, for checking out my baby.... ML
