This is a very cool, early 60's Guyatone, all-tube amp. The power tubes are a pair of 6BQ5's, giving it a max output of about 17 watts. It breaks up very nicely beginning around 6 on the volume.
It has a reverb unit which is fully functional and it has a really killer 'bias wiggler' tremolo!
Here's what I have done to it:
  • Replaced all three filter caps
  • Replaced all the old, oil-filled caps with Mallory 150's (see photo)
  • Added a 1/4" output jack on the back of the chassis, making it possible to
use the amp with an external cabinet and making it simple to remove the chassis for service, or swap out the speaker (no soldering).
  • Cleaned and scrubbed the alligator tolex.
  • Replaced the original speaker with a 12 inch, 8 ohm Epiphone Electar.
This is a really nice little combo amp. It would be great for small gigs, or studio use. Great sound, killer tremolo and general overall coolness!

If you are a harp player looking for that great amp for gigging, check this out!

These amps are hard to come by even in Japan, where I live.  The only wear on the outside is a small 'ding' in the top (see photos). Other than that it is in really good shape. The 'alligator' tolex is really tough!
There is a schematic glued to the inside of the cabinet. I have included a copy
of  it in the photos. If you ever have to have it serviced, there will be no problems.

NOTE: The schematic shows the power tubes as 6AQ5s. However the amp was built with a pair of 6BQ5 tubes. They have a higher plate voltage (300 vs 250) and put out more power with less distortion than the 6AQ5s. To the best of my knowledge, this amp was NOT modified before I received it. All the tube sockets and wiring is original. I suspect that Guyatone simply made an upgrade to the power tubes during the production run and, rather than printing up new schematic labels, they simply used what they had in stock. This was not an uncommon occurrence for amp companies (including Fender) during those days.
