Stonewall Pickups Wide Range Bass Humbucker

Neck - 30k
Alnico V rod magnets

Introducing my new Wide Range Bass Humbucker this week. The core concept is to get the absolute most out of the pickup routs in our guitars by expanding the aperture of these pickups. That is where I began with the Wide Range Bass Humbucker, by removing the cover and making larger bobbins. I can’t say for sure, I can only speculate that Fender’s Wide Range Bass Humbucker was an attempt to complete with Gibson’s Mudbucker... since they placed them right at the end of the fingerboard of the Telecaster bass and wound them hotter, like Mudbuckers, which is why I made the bobbins taller than my Wide Range guitar humbucker. So at 26.3k (1.5k more than the originals), what makes mine stand out or sound different from the original?? The two main things is that my bobbins are wider (both bobbins combined are the width of the original cover) resulting in a wider aperture for a bigger overall tone AND alnico magnets are more responsive than CuNiFe magnets. I think a better question, for those who like to modify and upgrade your basses, is which sounds better: my Wide Range Bass Humbucker or my Mudbucker??

Best suited for: bass players. [full stop] Seriously, this pickup has such an amazing tone; any bassist who wants a fat, responsive tone. Chances are the people looking at this listing are the bass players who enjoy projects and tinkering with their basses... I recommend putting this in at least one bass, short scale or full scale.

Pickguard material for tops as the aesthetic; currently I have tortoiseshell, white, parchment, cream, and black. The coil is wrapped in string for protection (white, off-white, or black string). These will not fit inside metal covers. The two bobbins combined are the same size as a cover. This allows me to expand the aperture for a bigger tone than traditional Wide Range Bass Humbuckers. It was a tonal consideration, not an aesthetic consideration.

All Stonewall Pickups are hand-wound (scatter-wound). When a coil is machine-wound, each turn of the wire lies directly next to the previous turn. This creates a muddy tone. If you've never owned hand-wound pickups, you are in for a treat: the clarity of tone and frequency response really comes through. Very open sounding with great string-to-string definition. Stonewall Pickups also have unmatched dynamics.

All Stonewall Pickups are vacuum wax potted to prevent microphonics. If you would prefer your pickups to not be potted (noisy but my favorite for recording), be sure to mention it when we email you regarding your pickup options.

All pickups are made to order and we have received a huge number of orders recently. Please allow 2-3 weeks from the time of order for us to craft and ship your pickups. Once your order is placed, we will send you a confirmation email to verify the specs and options and ensure you are getting exactly what you want.
