Limited edition model made of cherry wood from Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture.

On New Year's Day 2024, the Noto region was struck by an earthquake. We would like to express our deepest sympathy to all those affected by the disaster and sincerely hope for a speedy recovery.

Since then, we have been thinking about what we can do to help, and have started to make a model using cherry wood from Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, which we had previously purchased and planned to make one day.

Golden eagle design with a wish to fly in the sky

The golden eagle, the bird of Ishikawa Prefecture, was incorporated throughout the design, combining the scene of scattering feathers and cherry blossoms.

The golden eagle flaps its wings in the direction of the dancing cherry blossoms in spring, taking off powerfully into the sky. Hakusan, one of Japan's three sacred mountains along with Mount Fuji and Mount Tateyama, has been called a sacred mountain since ancient times because of its history as a sacred mountain.

Collaboration with Kanazawa's leading gold-leaf artisan group, Foilichi

Using wood from Ishikawa Prefecture, we wanted to incorporate decorations using local technology, so we collaborated with Kanazawa's leading gold leaf artisan group, Foil One, to apply shimmering gold leaf to the soundhole cover and soundhole label.

Japan's finest 'Kanazawa foil', gold leaf has been used since ancient times as a material symbolising eternity and immortality in temple architecture and Buddhist sculpture, and has been established and developed as something unique to Japan. Today, Kanazawa accounts for 99% of Japan's gold leaf production. The origin of the name Foilichi is that the company was the first to produce leaf crafts in this Kanazawa region.

The soundhole cover is fully goldleafed, using a sumptuous specification to depict cherry blossoms with uneven surfaces, giving it the unique lustre of real gold leaf that can be shown as it is.

The soundhole label has been designed using a combination of silver and gold leaf that shines through even in dimly lit soundholes.

Pale cherry blossom colouring

The colouring of this instrument uses an elegant gradation of colours, combining pale white and cherry blossom colours.

The pale shade is reminiscent of the original colour of cherry blossom petals, expressing a fragile yet graceful appearance.

The model is inspired by the 'bokashi' technique of Kaga Yuzen, the pride of Ishikawa, and fully expresses its character by using cherry wood from Ishikawa Prefecture.

Careful selection of materials

For the body top, the craftsmen of the Headway Aska Team Build Series selected high quality Sitka spruce.

In order to enhance the cherry wood, which is the main feature of this model, rare Madagascar rosewood has been selected for the centre of the body back, and together with the top material it creates a sound that firmly emphasises the mid-range, which can be described as the sweetness typical of cherry wood, and the euphonious high notes.

Part of the proceeds go to charity

Part of the proceeds from the sale of this instrument will be donated to Ishikawa Prefecture to help with the earthquake recovery.

The days have passed since the New Year's Day 2024 earthquake, and while the frequency of news of the disaster has decreased, we have heard stories of areas where reconstruction has not yet progressed. We hope that through the instrument of the guitar, we can provide even a small amount of support to the people of the Noto Peninsula, and that the number of people interested in the current situation will increase, even if only by one person.
