ESP E-SE 1980's Japan - Cold war legacy from Poland

- CONTEXT -

A guitar steeped in history, bought from an old Polish man. He bought it in Poland in the 1980's. The guitar has played extensively in hard-rock bands during the Cold War era. At that time, Poland only had access to Japanese equipment, due to the economic situation. He then moved to France, and the guitar sat in his attic for decades.

It's a guitar that would suit a collector or someone wishing to restore it.

- ABOUT THE INSTRUMENT -

Some frets are bent, sharp, and threaten to come out of the slots. The neck is very thin/flat. The body/neck junction is vintage and not perfect; the neck heel is a tiny bit smaller than the slot. The body is heavy, the guitar weighs over 4kg. The body has been repainted black and is turning "green". The electronics (pickups, pots) are working.

According to the information left on the guitar itself, it dates from 1984. By deduction, it's a vintage assembly with an ESP neck. I was unable to identify the body, pickups and electronics. I contacted ESP Japan, who are unable to identify the exact provenance of the instrument, as they have unfortunately not kept any traces or recordings of the period. From the pictures, they believe it to be an "early model".

The neck is stamped WORLD TANAKA INST. SHIBUYA - KU (98) JAPAN.

Perhaps it was a former music store, importer or guitar assembler. The inscription E-SE on the headstock could refer to the denominations used for Edwards guitars in later years. Perhaps it's a "pre-Edwards" neck? A mystery.

- CONTEXTE -

Guitare chargée d’histoire, achetée à un vieil homme polonais. Il en a fait l'acquisition en Pologne dans les années 1980. La guitare a joué énormément dans des groupes de hard-rock, pendant l’époque guerre froide. A ce moment, la Pologne avait uniquement accès à du matériel d’origine Japonaise, à cause du contexte économique. Ensuite, il s’est expatrié en France et la guitare a dormi des dizaines d’années dans son grenier.

C’est une guitare qui conviendra à un collectionneur ou à quelqu’un qui souhaite la restaurer.

- A PROPOS DE L'INSTRUMENT -

Certaines frettes sont tordues, tranchantes, et menacent de sortir des emplacements. Le manche est très fin/plat. La jonction corps/manche est d’époque et pas parfaite ; le talon du manche est un tout petit peu plus petit que l’emplacement d’accueil. Le corps est lourd, l guitare pèse + de 4kg. Le corps a été repeint en noir et vire sur le "vert". L’électronique (micros, potards) fonctionne.

Selon les informations laissées sur la guitare directement, elle daterait de 1984. Par déduction, il s’agit d’un assemblage d’époque, une partcaster avec un manche ESP. Je n'ai pas su identifier le corps, les micros et l’électronique. J’ai contacté ESP Japan qui n’est pas en mesure d’identifier la provenance exacte de l’instrument, car ils n’ont malheureusement pas gardé de traces et d’enregistrements de l’époque. D’après les images, ils pensent que c’est un « early model ».

Le manche de la guitare est tamponné WORLD TANAKA INST. SHIBUYA - KU (98) JAPAN. Peut-être s’agit-il d’un ancien magasin de musique, d’un importateur ou d’un assembleur de guitare. L’inscription E-SE sur la tête pourrait faire référence aux dénominations utilisées pour les guitares Edwards par la suite. Peut-être qu’il s’agit d’un manche « pré-Edwards » ? Mystère.
