About this listing
I acquired this 1968-1970 Fender Competition Red Mustang Bass directly from the son of the original owner, purchasing it out of the family home following the original owner's passing. Based on all factory specifications, hardware, and structural features, this is a correct 1968-1970 production model. The instrument features the classic Competition Red finish accented by white racing stripes, paired with period-correct Lollipop tuning machines which span the late 1960s to early 1970 production window.According to the family, who grew up alongside the instrument, it is 100% stock and has never been disassembled or repaired. To personally verify its originality, I carefully inspected the internal electronics by removing the metal control plate—leaving the pickguard entirely undisturbed—and confirmed that the wiring harness, pots, and solder joints remain completely untouched and original from the factoryThis bass comes in the period-correct Fender short-scale fiberboard case featuring a red interior. Bass cases of this era would either be this style or the hardshell case with a silver exterior and a red (not orange) interior. The orange-lined bass cases you see on some of the other Mustang listings are from earlier Mustang basses released prior to 1968. This bass has a small amount of natural paint flaking on the face of the headstock, which only adds to its vintage mojo. There are no cracks in the wood anywhere, and the frets show very little play wear. Overall, this bass has not been played very much, is in perfect working order, and delivers that unmistakable vintage tone.
