Overview
Wes Dooley and company at AEA Microphones in Pasadena have revived a rare classic with their KU4. This unique supercardioid ribbon microphone borrows heavily from the sound and construction of the legendary RCA KU3A, of which fewer than 600 were built. But where the original RCA mic could be a little dark, boomy, and inconsistent, the KU4 uses modern manufacturing techniques to tighten up tolerances, extend high frequencies and reduce proximity effect making this mic more useful on close-up vocal recording as well as a staple on the scoring stage.
