Hofner 172 Early 60’s - Red vinyl/tolex
This is the early 60’s version of the 172 with Höfners “Diamond” pickups and the classic Höfner rectangular control pad with sliders (for Solo/Rhythm and pickup selection). Later models switched to a round pickguard with regular knobs and a toggle switch. The body is covered in a red vinyl/tolex with a white trim around the sides. As per usual, the vinyl and trim has a slight shrinkage but nothing that affects playing or the overall feel (See pictures). One gold reflector pot cap is missing. These guitars are known for having quite chunky necks but this one feels just right, like a slightly beefier Stratocaster neck, very comfortable. The action is set quite low and it plays really nice. The frets are also in really good condition.
