During a time when cultural optimism was low, Gibson dreamed up a new line of "advanced" instruments; included in those models was the Advanced Jumbo. Due to low production numbers from 1936-1939, this model largely flew under the radar even though it was a supreme sounding and performing instrument. The Gibson Acoustic Custom Shop is pleased to once again offer the Gibson 1936 Advanced Jumbo, outfitted with a thermally aged Adirondack red spruce top, rosewood back and sides, rosewood fingerboard with mother-of-pearl Diamonds and Arrows inlay, vintage-spec neck profile, firestripe pickguard, and VOS Thin Finish Vintage Sunburst nitro lacquer finish.

As the guitar features Gibson's full 25 1/2" scale (as opposed to their usual 24 3/4" dreadnought playing field), the extra tension on the top attributed to this scale length results in an incredibly clear and rich sound with ample projection, great string-to-string clarity, and superior note definition when chording. Tonally, this guitar is warm and relaxed, with a broad-yet-dynamic midrange and crisp, punchy trebles. And while visually similar to a J-45, the AJ has a higher volume ceiling with more bass kick and less compression when digging in.
