The Kawai violin-shaped solid-body electric guitar is a rare, iconic artifact of the 1960s Japanese "Bizarre Guitar" boom. Built primarily around 1968 by the Kawai factory (which also manufactured or distributed under brands like Teisco, Winston, Apollo, and Saturn), these instruments are highly sought after by vintage collectors today for their striking, exaggerated body contours and distinct retro tonal character.
While many 1960s Japanese violin guitars were hollow-bodies inspired by the Hofner Beatle Bass, Kawai produced a specific solid-body variant featuring extreme body flares as seen on this model
