Hammond organ in a "console" format like the A, B, and C models, manufactured with tubes/valves and in very good condition. The organ is complete with original pedalboard and bench. A luxury model with an independent tone wheel and extra tone wheels for higher tones. This model has full foldback (bass and treble) on both keyboards, just like the B3 model. Historically, the most common models in Europe came from Hammond factories in various European countries such as Germany, England, Belgium, and the Netherlands (models from the L, M, and T series). This Hammond belongs to the small range of models only "Made in USA" which, to be sold in Europe, had to be prepared for the 230vAC network, being known as "export" versions, with exemplary build quality, above the other branches and clearly made to last. The H series models were produced from 1965 to 1969, with the H-112 version being the most advanced (featuring higher quality capacitors, a photoresistor-controlled expression pedal, among other features). The power amplifier is 60 watts across 3 channels and features 100% tube rectification. The Hammond has an internal column with 3 original 15” speakers and 2 8” speakers (the first being for the bass band and the 8” for the treble/midrange, sounding like high-fidelity stereo). But for a greater Leslie effect, it's advisable to turn off the Hammond speakers when the Leslie is engaged; this model already has controls for this effect, “Echo Only” and “Main & Echo”.
The H-112 has an incredible sound, not to mention that nothing (clones or digital emulators) matches the sound generated by the Tonewheel system. In total there are 21 tubes, 10 in the pre-amplification (4x 12AX7, 4x 12AU7, 1x 7247 and 1x EF86) and 11 in the power amplification (3x 7199, 4x 6BQ5, 2x 7591 and 1x in the rectification). 5U4 and 1x GZ34).
As a matter of curiosity and to understand the scale/effort required to acquire a Hammond at the time, this model finished in "Traditional Walnut" cost US$3,545 at the end of 1965. Today, with the respective devaluation of the currency, that would correspond to US$36,500 in America, since in Portugal at the time, musical instruments had a 100% tax (like luxury goods), which would correspond to double that value!!
It has the famous Hammond Spring Reverb, with 3 intensity levels: Reverb I, Reverb II and both simultaneously (more intense). As a particularity, this model has a fluorescent lamp above the keyboard, illuminating the keys and manual controls in darker environments.
Each of the two keyboards has 61 keys and the pedalboard has 25 bass pedals plus the expression/volume pedal with built-in vibrato suppressor. The main feature of the Hammond is obviously its Drawbars/Tonebars, totaling 46 registers, in which the various harmonics are mixed. On the upper keyboard there are 22 drawbars divided into 2 sets of 11 drawbars each, (A#) and (B) and on the lower keyboard 20 drawbars divided into 2 sets of 10 drawbars each, while on the bass pedal there are 4 drawbars.
As with the B3 model, the tonal presets are selected by black keys, totaling 11 pre-programs for both manual keyboards, two of which are linked to the two sets of drawbars per keyboard, allowing you to have two different drawbar tunings at the same time, with instant switching between them (for example, one register for rhythm and another for solo). Undoubtedly a valuable asset available to the professional musician. It also allows you to add a Leslie or disable the center amplifiers using the controls on the right side of the keyboard. On the left side, the "second voice" selector transforms all the voices of Percussion in legato or suspended, sustained voices that can be used separately.
The Hammond has 6 percussion voices on the upper keyboard (Chimes, Glock, Guitar, Marimba, Xylophone, and Banjo), which can be used individually or in combination. The Reiterate effect acts on the various percussion registers; by turning the inner double knob "Reiteration Rate," it is possible to vary the tempo. A feature much appreciated in the B3 model, the famous "key click," has been added to this same knob (through the elimination of filters in the circuit), making it now possible to "feel" and, better yet, adjust the intensity of the click! (but with the Reiterate key in the OFF position). By turning the outer double knob "Cymbal Brush Volume," the volume of the "Cymbal and Brush" accompaniment on the lower keyboard or on the pedalboard can be regulated.
In this model, the Celeste effect is also achieved by scanning, with two independent scanners, which, combined with the two additional amplifiers, allows for a stereo effect in the vibratos.
A complete overhaul was performed on the amplifier and the various preamplifiers, with total recap (replacement of electrolytic and high-voltage capacitors, including the motor capacitor), BIOS tuning, and quality testing of the tubes (which are in excellent condition). It was extensively disassembled and cleaned (including the keyboards), checked point by point, and improvements were made to the various circuits. All components that needed to be replaced due to age were replaced, including the important overhaul and oiling of the tonewheel and scanner system.
Beyond general maintenance, improvements were made to the circuits:
-The Hammond had an external output, but considering the different impedances of the various Leslie models, two outputs were added: low and high impedance (High/Low).
-For greater safety, the mains power supply circuit was rebuilt. The ground circuit was replaced and a fuse was installed at the power input, facilitating control over all instruments connected to the organ, and a 230VAC output was added. In short, when the Hammond is switched on, all devices connected to its external socket are switched on simultaneously.
-In terms of sound, modifications were made to make it as close as possible to the acclaimed Hammond B3 (along with touch-sensitive percussion). Models after the B3 became increasingly "docile," "clean," and without "distortion." To make the organ more "B3", the circuit of the various pre-amplifiers for Vibrato, Percussion, Reverb, Key click, and other effects was "improved" by altering/eliminating filters/condensers/resistors present in these circuits.
The Hammond was completely overhauled and treated by a specialized technician, and is now 100% ready for professional use and recording.
