The Beyerdynamic M 25 combines striking design with an incredibly robust construction that feels more like a mechanical instrument than a typical microphone. SOUND CHARACTERISTICS

The M 25 has a very distinctive vintage character. Compared to many modern dynamic microphones, the low-frequency response is relatively restrained, while the upper midrange and high frequencies are noticeably more prominent. This creates a slightly nasal presentation that helps sources cut through a mix.

What makes the microphone particularly interesting is the sense of space and colour it captures. The sound remains lively and atmospheric, making it a surprisingly effective choice for drum room recordings, vintage percussion setups, and coloured ambient microphone applications.

The upper-frequency emphasis adds clarity and presence without sounding overly modern, while the reduced bass response can help maintain definition in dense recordings.

Example applications include:

  • Drum room microphone
  • Vintage percussion recording
  • Guitar amplifier ambience
  • Brass and woodwind sections
  • Characterful speech and broadcast recording

Estimated Frequency Response:

110 Hz – 12,000 Hz

  • Upper-mid and high-frequency emphasis
  • Noticeably reduced bass response
  • Slight nasal character in the presence region
  • Open and atmospheric overall presentation
