Good Condition! The “SUPRAPHONIC 400” has arrived!
Serial number: 743422. This is a rare unit featuring a Keystone badge, believed to have been manufactured in 1969.
Inside the shell, you can see a "Sep 2 1969" date stamp, as well as the "AG" stamp often found on units from the late 60s.
It is equipped with the knob-style muffler introduced around 1969 and a 1970s-era P-85 strainer. The hoops are original Ludwig 1.8mm steel triple-flange hoops from that period.
The parts configuration reflects the transitional era between the 60s and 70s; the mix of specifications from both decades makes this particular unit especially interesting. It features brass washers and uses modern "1963" snare wires.
The sound offers a superb balance between a sharp, crisp attack and a tone that carries a hint of sweetness. It delivers a bright, open resonance while maintaining a solid, defined core.
With outstanding projection, this iconic Ludwig metal snare is versatile enough for any genre—from rock and pop to jazz.
It is a highly appealing instrument that combines the unique presence of a vintage piece with a sound ready for immediate professional use.
While there are some signs of age—such as rust, scratches, and dirt on the hoops—the overall condition is excellent for a vintage snare.
As 1960s Supraphonic 400s are particularly rare on the market, this drum is a fantastic choice whether for a collection or for active, everyday playing. (Specifications)
