About this listing
I'm selling my Gibson ES-140.It's a spectacular guitar with a great sound. You can hear the wood well, and the notes have a lot of brightness and clarity. It's with regret that I'm putting it up for sale here, but one of the two Gibsons has to go...It was restored in London by a luthier (I don't remember the name), and I bought it at The Fellowship Of Acoustics many years ago.Currently, it has a new bone nut, it had a refret with vintage-style frets, and they are almost new. The tuning pegs are replicas of the originals because those disintegrated over time. The hard case is included. It has Ernie Ball 10-52 strings. From GoogleAI:The technical specifications of the Gibson ES-140 (Full Depth) perfectly reflect the high-quality engineering that Gibson applied to its top-of-the-line models of the 1950s, but ingeniously adapted to a smaller body (3/4 size). Below are the detailed characteristics of this model as it came from the Kalamazoo factory between 1950 and 1956: 🎸 Body and Construction Body Type: Archtop Hollow-body (completely hollow, without a central block of wood).Body Depth (Full Depth): 3 ⅜ inches (approximately 8.5 cm). This generous depth is what gives it a full-bodied and resonant acoustic sound, identical to that of an ES-175. Body Width: 12 ¾ inches (about 32.4 cm) at the bottom (lower bout). For comparison, a standard ES-175 measures 16 inches. Body Woods: Pressed laminated maple top, sides, and back. The use of laminate was Gibson's intentional choice for electric jazz guitars, as it made the structure more rigid and less prone to feedback.Cutaway: Florentine (pointed), allowing easy access to the higher frets. Binding: Simple cream/ivory binding around the top and back of the body. Neck and Fretboard: Neck Wood: One-piece mahogany, with the classic 1950s profile (slightly chubby "C" shape, but very comfortable). Scale Length: 22 ¾ inches (57.7 cm). This is the key to the model: a short scale that reduces string tension, making bends incredibly smooth. Nut Width: Narrow, measuring 1 9/16 inches (approximately 39.6 mm). Fretboard Wood: Genuine Brazilian Rosewood, a protected and extremely rare wood today. Inlays: Pearloid dots. Number of Frets: 19 frets (with the neck joint at the 14th fret) 2 mm wide, 1.2mm highElectronics and Hardware: Pickup: A single Gibson P-90 "Dogear" single-coil pickup positioned near the neck. It's famous for its fat, warm sound and fantastic midrange response. Controls: 1 volume and 1 tone, equipped with the iconic transparent "bowler hat" style knobs (Gold Top Hat knobs or Speed knobs, depending on the exact year). Bridge: Floating base and top entirely carved from Rosewood, height adjustable via metal threads.Tailpiece: Simple trapezoidal chrome or nickel-plated metal. Tuners: Kluson Deluxe tuners with oval plastic buttons (known as single-ring, single-line).Hardware: Nickel-plated hardware. ✨ Factory Finishes Sunburst: The most common standard finish, with a smooth transition from dark brown at the edges to golden yellow in the center.
