This is the much sought after mastering limiter from SPL's digital series. Please note this has digital connectivity only (AES EBU & SPDIF)!

The Loudness Maximizer utilizes a unique combination of 'no-knee' compression and limiting, and blends between both based on an ongoing real-time analysis of the input signal. This enables signal treatment with loudness gains not possible with other methods while simultaneously preserving signal integrity (i.e. it produces very few artifacts when limiting a waveform). There is a dedicated meter to help with how much limiting is possible with the currently processed signal.

This processor features one of the most pleasant limiting characteristics available, with several flavors adaptable with an emphasis on transparency or saturation. This works via the DENSITY (sets the balance between limiting and compression) and SOFT/HARD (probably a shift between RMS and peak detection) controls. There is an additional BOOST characteristic available too, which is great on most beat and bass-heavy material.

Technical condition: All processing works without issues. The rotary controls of the entire SPL digital series have a bit of an awkward feel. They are meant to skip values when turned quickly and be continuous when turned slowly. Takes a while to get used to.

Cosmetics: some signs of use. Marks from rack mounting on rack ears, top, bottom, etc. Rack ears appear a tiny bit bent: this unit is very heavy and appears to have been racked without support in the back. Nothing stark – see photos.
