As close to mint as I've ever seen in an instrument of this age. Virtually unplayed.
I bought it from the original owner who had bought it in Hawaii in she thought the late 1970s. I can’t find a serial # or date stamp. Might reach out to Kamaka at some point, but the white label, her recollection, and the classic gold interior of the original case all point to mid-to late 70’s.
I’m in no rush to sell, and honestly posting it on here to document my personal instruments as much as anything. With that in mind I’m pricing it at $1,500, which I know is on the high side, but for a near mint 50 year old Kamaka tenor like this, I think it’s fair.
The koa has some nice figure and the back is beautifully bookmatched. I can find only three flaws in the finish of the instrument: one is a very shallow scratch on the back near the heel, the other two appear to be drips from the factory. I have photographed all three to the best of my ability, but all three are difficult to see let alone photograph.
Feel free to ask any questions and check out the other instruments in my shop, many of which I am more than happy to accept offers on.
