About this listing
The legendary funk machine - Hohner Clavinet D6This clavi was originally owned and played by a professional touring musician. As his career stopped the clavi also retired - unfortunately to a life stored in a barn which left it in a quite a poor state. I bought it from him and spend a lot of hours restoring it and have been playing it for the last 5 years, but now it has to move on for more use and love. Here I'll list what I have done to it and the remaining "issues".What has been fixed:The tuning mechanisms had corroded due to the poor storage environment. All of these have been taken apart, cleaned carefully and lubricated, so they are back to being fully functional.Stringed with a brand new set of strings. (From Vintage Vibe)New hammer tips. (From Vintage Vibe)The old yarn has been upgraded to clavigel. (From Vintage Vibe)When I got it there was no sound from the bridge pickup but I could measure a DC resistance on it so my attention went straight to the switch. It was given some contact cleaner (Kontakt 60) followed by a good amount of exercise and it all came back to life.Comes with the original tuning screw driver! The other stuff:Most of the exterior metal parts (screws, leg flanges, handles, locks) have rusted / corroded. Handles and flanges work but the lid locks can't be trusted in their current state so it won't be safe to carry it in the handles since the locks aren't keeping the lid and keyboard securely together. Legs are also show a bit rust and wear but nothing that effects functionality. The mute and slider has been removed at some time during its life. Unfortunately they got lost so the clavi comes without those parts - though the mute springs are still there. Some times original mute assemblies and sliders can be bought at Vintage Vibe. The sheet music stand has also disappeared at some time. The mute cheek block screw is stock in the threading which was supposed to stay in the wood. This has been no functional issue for me since the threading still grips a bit in the wood and the chhek block is also kept in place by the tuning cover. So all in all a functional, nice playing and sweet sounding clavinet with some signs of a long life.I have tried my best to take pictures that show and cover all of the above, but please ask any questions and I will also be happy to supply additional pictures. Sold as described. Thanks for reading.
