VOX AC30HW LIMITED EDITION Hand Wired Amp Series 2003 model - Made in the UK
I have this fabulous "Korg Era" AC30HW LIMITED EDITION for sale because:
1) I have a AC30HWH/CV212LTD (2003) for recording in the studio (it's the same but in the Head & Cab version).
2) This one's stayed at home since I bought it in 2023 (mint!) before I found the "Head and Cab version", so I don't use it as much because the head/cab version is more handy ;)
3) I need a AC15 TB/TBX (Korg Era) for playing live, simply because AC15 are less heavy (!) Plus, I use the "Head and Cab AC30", mostly for recording. So, if by any chance you have one AC15 TB/TBX to exchange, I'm interested! :)
If you came here it's probably because you know that these AC30 Korg Era Hand Wired Limited Edition were only made in 2003 and by 2004 they were gone! (and yes, it's basically like a TBX, only better built and hand wired - no printed circuit here :)
Knowing that the "Korg Era" AC30 TBX (made in the Marshall factory until 2004) were pretty much the best accurate amps that came close to the original "Jennings" from the 60's (but without the overheating issues), you may also know that the "Korg Era" 2003 model "Hand Wired Limited Series" is THE BEST VERSION OF THE ORIGINAL AC30.
So yes, the AC30HW LTD is the best built, best dependable, best cooled and most versatile AC30 (especially in low gain), with REAL VALVE RECTIFIERS (no digital rectifiers here, as the ones made in China), tag strip wired, "Blue Bulldog" speakers, etc.
In sum, this very rare limited edition from 2003 is about the "Holy Grail" of modern AC30's and marks the end of an era, as the last ones made in the UK.
For best info check here:
"Introduced in 2003, the Vox AC30HW Series was offered in addition to the AC-30TB and AC30TBX models Vox had been selling since 1996.
The AC30TB and AC30TBX were incredibly accurate recreations of the circuitry, cabinet, and speakers from the original Vox namesake. The major difference between original Vox AC-30 and the AC-30TB/X models was how the circuitry was implemented.
1960's era Vox amps were hand wired on tag strips. The connecting leads (or wires) from each electronic part was manually wrapped around a terminal, or "tag," and then soldered. This mode of amp construction is very labor intensive and the workmanship and accuracy of the employee building the amp will affect the performance of the product. It was for this reason that most electronics manufacturers transitioned to phenolic printed circuit boards by 1970.
Printed circuit, or "PC board" construction allows for mechanized insertion of electronic parts and automatic, or "wave" soldering for consistancy in quality. These gains were not without new issues though. PC boards can be much harder to repair. Additionally, in the event of a severe failure such as a shorted output tube there is the potential to destroy a trace on a circuit board. The AC30TB series amps were constructed on circuit boards.
By offering the AC30HW "hand wired" version of the AC-30, Vox now would allow the customer to choose between a circuit board and a tag strip wired amplifier." (end quote)
It was completely reviewed by a professional technician when I bought it in 2023 here on Reverb. Only one EL84 valve was replaced. The rest is completely original and in absolute perfect condition. Sounds as you can imagine.
Goes complete with the original footswitch pedal and the leather protective cover.
