About this listing
Over the past few years, parlor guitars have had a bit of a renaissance. As players put more emphasis on comfort, and modern electronics have made pure acoustic volume less of an issue, parlor guitars have become a great option. The Takamine P3NY “New Yorker” is a high-quality parlor guitar with first-class electronics that will take you seamlessly from the studio to the stage.
Immaculate condition guitar, no wear at all, always kept in the case. Includes original HSC.The smaller air chamber of a parlor body “pushes” air faster than a larger-bodied guitar, making it more touch-sensitive and a great fit for fingerpickers or players with a lighter touch. The solid cedar top creates a warmer tone than harder, denser spruce and, to our ears, sounds “old” sooner. For the solid back and laminated sides, Takamine uses sapele, an African hardwood in the mahogany family with a similar look. Sonically, it has that same midrange emphasis, but its added hardness tends to make it a little brighter. In our experience, sapele brings more high-end content than mahogany, and we think it pairs well with the cedar top. It’s warm, but still complex, with good high-end detail. Due to its size, a parlor will never have the low-end content of a dreadnought, but the punchy midrange and fast attack make it great for fingerpickers or for punching through a dense mix. The slotted headstock also increases string pressure on the nut, which adds brilliance and sustain to the open strings.Takamine has made a name for itself as a leader in acoustic guitar electronics, and like other Pro Series guitars, this one includes their CT-4BII electronics with the “Palathetic” bridge transducer. In Takamine's own words, the Palathetic pickup is not your usual under-saddle piezo:"Using six individually shielded piezo-electric elements, one for each string, the Palathetic pickup is not a just a UST (under-saddle pickup). In fact the Takamine design employs twelve times the element mass of the typical under-saddle pickup. The six elements penetrate the bridge plate, soundboard and bridge to make direct contact with the saddle creating a sonic linkage with the string. The pickup casing is mechanically attached to the guitar's top and bridge creating a sonic linkage with the soundboard. The result of this design is a signal that possesses the articulation of an isolated string signal and the rich harmonic content delivered by the resonating soundboard for a full, complete and accurate acoustic guitar tone at high sound pressure levels."The Takamine P3NY is an expertly crafted instrument with a personality that defies its size. For coffeehouse troubadours, pickers, and singer-songwriters, the P3NY is a perfect companion. The Takamine P3NY Features:
