The Gibson Les Paul Special Double Cut directly derives from the historic Les Paul Special of 1955, which in turn was an evolution of the Les Paul Junior from 1954 — a solidbody instrument that was essential yet of high quality, initially designed as a student model and soon adopted by professionals. With the addition of a second pickup, dedicated controls, a selector switch, binding on the fingerboard, and a mother-of-pearl logo on the headstock, the Special expanded the tonal possibilities of the Junior while maintaining its straightforward character and classic wraparound bridge.

In 1958, the double cutaway version debuted, offering improved access to the higher frets, which was further refined in 1960 with the SlimTaper™ neck profile and a new neck pickup positioning for enhanced structural stability. These developments have made the Les Paul Special one of the most iconic and versatile guitars in Gibson's history, an ideal synthesis of simplicity, power, and playability.

The body is made of mahogany, paired with a mahogany neck featuring a 60s SlimTaper™ profile.

The fingerboard, made of rosewood, is equipped with 22 Medium Jumbo frets and a 12" radius, providing a natural feel during performances, making it ideal for extended playing sessions.

The electronics consist of a set of Gibson Custom USA P-90 Soapbar pickups, connected to CTS® potentiometers and Bumblebee capacitors, delivering a rich and dynamic sound that can range from clean and crystalline tones to gritty distortions.

The Wraparound bridge and Gibson Deluxe tuners complete the setup, ensuring stable and precise tuning.
