This guitar looks like it spent the last 40 years playing smoky Texas roadhouses, surviving bar fights, melting tube amps, and personally insulting weak guitar players… yet somehow it was born on January 2nd, 2020.Ladies and gentlemen, this is a Fender Custom Shop SRV Signature Strat Relic that has somehow managed to capture the exact energy of a man who attacked a Stratocaster like it owed him money.The first thing you notice is the gigantic “SRV” engraved pickguard, which is subtle in the same way a flamethrower is subtle. This guitar does not whisper blues licks politely into the room. This guitar kicks the saloon doors open, orders brisket, and immediately starts playing “Pride and Joy” loud enough to frighten nearby Telecasters.And let’s discuss the relic work for a moment… this thing looks gloriously dangerous. The finish wear, arm wear, edge wear, and neck aging are absolutely killer. It has the exact appearance of a guitar that has been hauled across Texas in the back of a pickup truck next to an oil-stained toolbox and three empty bottles of hot sauce.The neck is especially absurd. The heavily relic’d rift sawn maple neck feels less like a new guitar and more like you somehow inherited Stevie’s personal backup from a mysterious blues wizard named Earl who lives behind a barbecue restaurant.And the tone? Oh buddy…These Texas Specials hit your amp like a caffeinated grizzly bear wearing cowboy boots. Clean tones sparkle, edge-of-breakup tones bark, and when you hit a Tube Screamer with the bridge pickup engaged, nearby walls begin reconsidering their structural integrity.The best part? At 7.6 LBS, this thing is surprisingly comfortable.
