The hammering—meticulously applied by hand by skilled Japanese metal artisans—utilizes hammers of varying sizes to create slightly higher rigidity near the edges compared to the center, resulting in a profound, voluminous resonance.

It produces pleasing high-frequency tones without requiring high-pitch tuning, yet achieves a mellow, never-muddy sound at lower pitches. This drum enables a wide range of expression, spanning from the brilliant, dazzling resonance typical of metal shells to a sophisticated, composed tone.
