The Teac TN-5BB-M/B is a high-quality belt-driven turntable designed for precise and stable vinyl playback. Its multi-layered hybrid chassis combines a 36 mm-thick MDF base plate, a 12 mm-thick sheet of synthetic marble and Japanese washi paper. The separate mounting of the motor, tonearm and platter reduces unwanted vibration transfer. The 20 mm-thick acrylic platter complements the stable construction. With support for 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm, the TN-5BB-M/B is suitable for both modern vinyl collections and older 78 rpm records. The pre-fitted Ortofon 2M Red MM cartridge also makes it easy to get started with vinyl playback.

The Teac TN-5BB-M/B utilises the PRS3 belt-drive mechanism to ensure controlled and precise rotation of the turntable platter. A flat belt transmits the power from the DC motor to the outer circumference of the platter. An optical sensor continuously monitors the rotational speed, whilst an automatic speed control mechanism uses a servo to regulate the motor. This ensures a high degree of rotational precision. The 20 mm-thick acrylic turntable platter boasts a high degree of flatness and internal damping, and weighs 1.7 kg. Its material properties also minimise electrification caused by friction between the platter and the record. The combination of precise speed control and a stable platter thus provides the basis for reliable analogue playback. With a wow and flutter of ≤ 0.1 per cent, the turntable is designed for controlled and consistent platter movement.

The tonearm, developed in collaboration with SAEC, combines highly sensitive tracking with flexible adjustment options. A stainless-steel blade edge is used for vertical movement, whilst lateral movement is supported at two points by high-precision Japanese ball bearings. The height of the tonearm base can be adjusted, and the Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA) can be set within a range of 6 mm. This allows the tonearm to be optimised for cartridges of varying heights. The geometry is based on the Baerwald alignment recommended by the IEC. The motorised tonearm lift provides additional ease of use, allowing the tonearm to be raised and lowered at the touch of a button. Once playback has finished, a contactless optical sensor automatically raises the tonearm. This function can be deactivated for non-standard records. The internal tonearm wiring uses an SAEC PC-Triple-C conductor.

The Teac TN-5BB-M/B comes factory-fitted with an Ortofon 2M Red MM cartridge. The cartridge is pre-fitted and matched to the headshell, so the turntable is ready for playback quickly once set up. For connection to an analogue audio system, the model offers both standard RCA outputs and XLR outputs. The balanced XLR output allows connection to an external phono equaliser that supports a balanced XLR input. There is no built-in phono preamplifier. The features are rounded off by anti-skating and support for the three speeds: 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm. The TN-5BB-M/B is therefore aimed at discerning vinyl enthusiasts who wish to combine carefully engineered analogue playback with versatile connectivity options and user-friendly operation.
