The Yamaha PSR 8 is a 49 key portatone keyboard. The instrument, having 49 keys with left hand split of 18 notes that could play either single-fingered chords, full-fingered chords or just manual bass, was also equipped with 40 iconic tones, 10 PCM rhythms and a possibility of 380 dual tones. The instrument has 20 voice buttons and a SUSTAIN button. Each button could operate to trigger two different tones one at a time. The changeover between two sounds of the same button is controlled by a SIDE-A/SIDE-B button on the keyboard. The keyboard also has START/STOP, INTRO/FILL-IN and SYNCHRO START buttons for the 10 PCM rhythms. For a good finish, the keyboard has DEMONSTRATION, RECORD and PLAY buttons.
