The RA-95 is an Intelligent Arranger that can be controlled by an external MIDI device. It features a newly developed 16-part, multi-timbral sound source that can generate 241 Tones and 9 Drum Kits.

The Arranger section can be controlled independently via MIDI depending on the selected mode.

The Upper section can also be controlled independently via MIDI, allowing you to play any of the 241 available Tones.

You can select one of the Tones for the Upper section using the UPPER TONE selection buttons. You can control the volume of the Upper section with the UPPER buttons in the BALANCE section. The volume of the accompaniment can be controlled with the ACCOMP buttons (which globally raises or lowers the accompaniment parts).

Moreover, the volume of the drum and bass parts can be set independently using the DRUMS and BASS buttons in the BALANCE section. To fully realize the potential of the RA-95 it is necessary to use an external controller that can send MIDI note and control data.

The RA-95 contains a Floppy Disk Drive that can read and play Standard MIDI Files (SMF) (format 1 or 0) through the internal sound source. Use the Floppy Disk Drive if you want to load additional Music Styles into the RA-95's internal memory (MSD-100 Series Style Disks).

The two modes, ARRANGER and SONG, turn the RA-95 into an Arranger and a Standard MIDI File player respectively. In both cases, the Upper section allows you to add another part, in real time, to the arrangement or the SMF playback. The RA-95 has two sets of MIDI sockets, MIDI 1 and MIDI 2, and an RRC socket (Roland Remote Control).

Six FACTORY MIDI SETTINGS, each one for a different MIDI device, allow the RA-95 to interface with different MIDI Controllers. Any one of these 6 settings can be selected when the unit is powered up. (The selected setting will remain active until the unit is turned off.)

The RA-95 can be used in two different ways:

ARRANGER MODE: the Arranger and Upper section can be used in real time and controlled from the panel (Tones and volume).

SONG MODE: song playback comes from Standard MIDI Files (SMFs) stored on floppy disk.

The 16 parts (max.) of a song, together with the Uppersection, can be controlled in real time (Tones and volume). Each MIDi setting works

differently in the Song or Arranger Mode. The RA-95 is fully compatible with the General MIDI (GM) Standard and Roland's own GS Format.
