The Element 88 gives you eight mic preamps with up to 75 dB of gain, selectable 48V phantom power, Soft Limit and polarity inversion, together with conversion capable of delivering 119 dB of A/D dynamic range and 123 dB on D/A. It also provides ADAT/SMUX/SPDIF connectivity, Word Clock and two headphone outputs, making it considerably more than a simple computer interface. 


And then there is the reason this particular example deserves attention.

It is in near-mint condition, I’ll be happy to include the original Apple Thunderbolt cable — an increasingly difficult accessory to source today and a particularly useful addition for anyone who wants to put the Element 88 straight back into a compatible Thunderbolt-based studio system.
The Element series was engineered around extremely low-latency Thunderbolt operation, with Apogee’s driver architecture designed to minimize CPU load while maintaining stable, low-buffer performance. In other words, this is equipment conceived for people who care about the recording chain rather than simply ticking boxes on an interface specification sheet. 


The Element 88 has that rare quality of being both technically serious and beautifully simple. No unnecessary front-panel clutter, no gimmicks — just eight excellent channels of Apogee recording quality, professional conversion and the kind of transparent, controlled signal path that lets the microphone and performance remain the focus.

For a project studio, overdubbing rig or professional recording setup, this remains an extremely compelling piece of Apogee engineering.

And in this condition, complete with the hard-to-find original Apple Thunderbolt cable, it is an especially attractive example.
