Mateus Asato rose to acclaim through videos of his virtuosic guitar playing posted to his Instagram, where he's amassed over a million followers. Before the pandemic, he's toured with all kinds of musicians and even has his own signature guitars made by Suhr—the Mateus Asato Classic T, Classic S, and the Shell Pink Classic Antique)—as well as his signature Jackson Audio Asabi overdrive/distortion pedal.
As we did this summer with Cory Wong and again this fall Orianthi, we wanted to see what Reverb's resident guitar hero Joe Shadid could learn from adopting Asato's practice routine for a full week.
Be sure to check out the full video above to watch Mateus Asato break down the practice routine that "puts his fingers in a good mood" and to see if Joe can keep up and what he learns from Asato's techniques.
