Eastman MDC804 Oval Hole Mandocello

Eastman Strings rewrote the book on what we should expect of bowed string instruments made in China, and then proceeded to do the same for plucked strings. The line extends from upper-entry-level instruments to perfectly respectable axes for proficient and even semi-professional musicians.
     Though you have plenty of choices for a mandolin, the same can’t really be said for mandolas and mandocellos, which makes Eastman’s lower-pitched line even more attractive. It’s rare these days to find a mandocello, in particular, under $5,000—unless it’s an Eastman.
     This is the Eastman MDC804 oval-hole mandocello, built on an archtop guitar body. Spruce top, flame maple back and sides. Ebony fretboard with 12-inch radius and 25-inch scale length. Nut width 1.75 inches. Maple neck with single-action truss rod. Ivoroid binding on the top, back, fretboard, and headstock. Gold hardware, ebony adjustable bridge, ebony and brass tailpiece.
     This instrument wasn’t played much and is in very good condition. It has an authoritative voice and is rewarding to play. Hardshell case included.
