Performance synthesiser with 88-key hammer-action keyboard

With the AstroLab 88, Arturia presents a modern performance synthesiser that brings together the best of 25 years of innovation, development and passion. The AstroLab 88 combines Arturia’s innovative software instruments with hardware suitable for both studio and stage use. The hardware immediately impresses with its attractive design and a clean, uncluttered control panel. The 88-key hammer-action keyboard is fully weighted and offers a very comfortable playing experience; it also provides channel aftertouch. Thanks to its dual multitimbral capability, you can play and reproduce two sounds simultaneously. In a live setting, this means you can play one part by hand whilst the other is played via the DAW. A split point can also be defined so that both parts can be played manually at the same time. To the right of the porthole – which serves as the central control element – there are ten preset buttons for quick, direct access to sounds and the four macro controls. Effects can be quickly adjusted using the four controls and buttons. Features such as the flexible arpeggiator, a chord mode and the MIDI looper underline its claim to be a stand-alone instrument for live performances.

With the power of the V Collection

In terms of sound, the AstroLab 88 really makes the most of its ten sound engines. These include virtual analogue, samples, wavetable, FM, granular, physical modelling, vector synthesis, harmonic, phase distortion, Karplus-Strong and vocoder. Over 1,600 sounds are pre-installed as standard. If you connect the AstroLab to a computer running Arturia’s Analog Lab Pro, you gain access to well over 10,000 sounds. In other words, with this synthesiser, you have all the plug-ins from the V Collection directly at your fingertips, ready to play! For quick adjustments, you can use the four macro controls. With 17 insert effects, plus delay and reverb, you have everything you need to spice up your chosen sound. Needless to say, you can also import your own sounds. The control concept is deliberately designed to make countless sounds from the outstanding engines available at the touch of a button. Anyone who still wants to tweak sounds can do so on a computer, which must be connected to the Astrolab 88.

An elegant eye-catcher

The AstroLab 88’s futuristic exterior looks particularly sophisticated thanks to its modern white design, combined with the uncluttered surface and the attractive wooden side panels. All keys are backlit, which makes it easier to find your way around in low light. In addition, the knobs are fitted with LED rings, and even the modulation wheel is adorned with an LED bar. A trigger LED above each keyboard key indicates the corresponding keys whilst playing and during playback via a DAW. The circular navigation wheel with OLED display is particularly well-designed; it primarily shows the selected engine and the current preset.

Professional Connections

The rear panel of the AstroLab 88 is pleasingly versatile. In addition to the keyboard , there are expression and sustain pedal sockets, as well as two footswitch sockets. This enhances the expressive possibilities of the keyboard when used with standard pedals. MIDI communication is handled via the In and Out ports, as well as via USB. This is perfect for anyone wishing to use additional equipment, such as a rack expander, with the AstroLab 88. As a performance synthesiser, it naturally features audio inputs! On the input side, the AstroLab features stereo line inputs in the form of XLR combo sockets, which are also suitable for microphone signals; for signal output, there is a balanced stereo output pair with large jack sockets. The USB-C port is intended for data transfer with a computer. The USB-A port can be used to connect external storage (a USB stick) or an additional MIDI-USB controller.
