With the Gibson 1959 ES-355 Watermelon Red Light Aged the Gibson Custom Shop reissues the stylish premium version of the famous 1959 ES-335. The top-of-the-line semi-hollow model with premium wood selection, historically accurate hardware appointments, and a hand-wired electrical system offers furthermore classic visual appointments of the prototype and skillfully showcases the coveted semi-hollow platform with Murphy Lab's authentic ageing process.
Maple and poplar body with centre block.With its 3-ply maple and poplar body, the 1959 ES-355 Watermelon Red Light Aged follows the laminate construction common since 1948 at Gibson and made famous by the ES-175. Finished with multiple binding, the semi-hollow body features an additional centre block made of solid maple, which allows the model to play at higher gain settings without unwanted Feedback. Other premium features of the ES-355 include a solid ebony fingerboard with 22 frets in the historically correct medium Jumbo format that evokes the classic's renowned playability.
Hand-wired electrics with custombucker pickups and paper-in-oil caps.Also the wiring of the Gibson 1959 ES-355 Watermelon Red Light Aged remains true to the original of the late fifties and relies on real paper-in-oil capacitors as well as potentiometers from the component manufacturer CTS. On the other hand, the combination of two Gibson Custom Bucker humbuckers provides appropriate sounds at the amplifier. The hand-wound double coilers originate from the Gibson Custom Shop and are based on years of analysis of original PAF humbuckers of the era, and the coveted sound of this iconic pickup comes as close as ever.
In addition to its premium appointments, the ES-355 Watermelon Red Light Aged naturally showcases classic premium visual features of the original ES-355. Accordingly, the ebony fingerboard features a wraparound Binding and chic 1950s Pattern pearl block inlays instead of the usual dots, while the custom Diamond on the headstock of this premium model naturally cannot be missed. Finishing off the Gibson ES-355 is an authentic Light Ageing by the Gibson Murphy Lab, which authentically recreates the lacquer texture of an original that has been preserved over the decades with slight signs of ageing.
