This is the last of my precious Yamaha TX81Z units.
One owner since 1987. It has always been kept safely in my studio rack.
Excellent condition. Includes cable for tape recorder and original manuals.
Rumor has it that the TX81Z is finding its way back into modern music production — and it is easy to understand why. Its punchy FM basses, clean digital edge and classic late-80s character still cut through a mix in a way many modern plug-ins try to recreate.
My own patches are included.
About:
The Yamaha TX81Z is a rack-mounted frequency modulation (FM) tone generator, released in 1987. It is also known as a keyboard-less Yamaha DX11, and is related to the Yamaha V50 workstation.
Unlike earlier FM synths, the TX81Z offered oscillator waveforms beyond just sine waves, giving it a wider range of tones than older Yamaha FM units. It has become especially famous for its bass sounds and sharp digital FM character.
Notable sounds include:
- Lately Bass
- Solid Bass
- Rubber Bass
- Synth Bass
- FM Electric Piano
- Bell sounds
- Metallic percussion
- Plucked digital sounds
- Sharp FM leads
A classic 4-operator Yamaha FM rack synth for collectors, producers and synth enthusiasts.
