Sandberg California TT5 Passive Orange Metallic Hard Aged

It took about three years for the bass to arrive after I ordered it, and it was well worth the wait.

This was actually our first Sandberg order, and although we got there a little while ago, the finished product was even better than I expected.

The body is well-aged and, despite its metallic orange finish, has a more subdued presence than a flashy one.

Other parts besides the body have a dull look, from the dirt on the neck.

Even the burn marks from a cigarette being stuck in the neck, which you don't see much these days, have been recreated, adding a touch of character.

Looking more closely, the frets have been carefully recreated to look like they've been well-used, with a slightly worn-in feel and a slightly flattened top, as if they've been slightly filed down.

(Of course, this doesn't affect the playability.)

It weighs just under 4kg, and even when you hold it, it feels light and balanced, like an old guitar.

And even when you pluck it, there's a stress-free vibration.

It's not just superficial aging, but internal aging and vibration treatment have also been applied, which causes the body to vibrate and recreates a state that makes you feel as if you're being drawn in.

The original pickups are alnico singles positioned in the 1960s position to give it a vintage feel.

Even though it's passive, I think you'll enjoy it to the fullest, with no complaints at all down to the low B.

The original bridge and tuning machines, and although it's vintage-oriented, it also has a zero fret, so no compromises were made, and I've learned that this is not just a simple aging process, but a noble German manufacturer with a commitment to quality.

This bass won't disappoint you if you're drawn in by its appearance.
