K Zildjian Istanbul "Intermediate Stamp" 14" Hi-Hats – Now in Stock!
Vintage K Zildjians remain immensely popular among jazz and blues drummers today, prized for their rich, "dry" (or "aged") sound. This particular pair is a rare specimen—a so-called "Old K"—manufactured in Istanbul, Turkey.
K Zildjians were produced at the Istanbul factory until 1977. After the factory closed, the trademark rights moved to Canada; consequently, these Turkish-made K Zildjians are now held in particularly high regard among vintage cymbals.
The stamp features a small trademark star and the words "Made in Turkey" running along the curve of the crescent moon—distinctive characteristics of the "Intermediate Stamp." Based on the omission of certain Arabic characters, this pair is estimated to have been manufactured between 1959 and 1966.
The sound embodies the classic "Old K" character: a low, dry tone paired with unique, trashy overtones.
When played half-open, the cymbals produce a thick, dry "slosh" interwoven with complex overtones, while legato playing reveals a distinctive, alluring quality in every note. Even when closed, the "chick" attack is soft and refined rather than harsh. They do not become ear-fatiguing at higher volumes and faithfully translate the player's nuances into sound.
Additionally, the maker's signature is visible—a detail that "Old K" enthusiasts will surely appreciate.
Weighing in at 671g and 702g, they fall into the lighter category for 14-inch hi-hats, offering a combination of quick response and that sought-after dry resonance.
While there are signs of age, such as discoloration and stick marks, there is no major damage—no keyholing, cracks, or chips—and the overall condition is excellent. With minimal edge dents or scratches, this is a cymbal with great character, especially considering its age.
This is a true collector's item that offers enjoyment not only through its sound but also through its stamp, weight, and maker's signature. Even among Istanbul K cymbals—which have seen their reputation soar in recent years—finding a 14-inch pair from this vintage era is a rare occurrence. This is a superb set that we highly recommend to anyone seeking the distinctive "dryness," low pitch, and "trashy" character unique to Old Ks.
*Note: Due to the small center hole, these may not fit certain stands—specifically those with plastic cup tilters on the bottom seat. Please be aware of this before purchasing.
