- Ribbon Microphones are tube-driven, featuring a thin strip of metal suspended in a magnetic field that moves with changing air pressure to produce signal. These mics often feel inherently vintage, reaching the pinnacle of their popular between the mid-'30s and '50s. They can be popular choices for recordists after a certain vintage vibe, and/or for tempering the overtones of brass instruments.
