A true British classic design with a few twists to make a very useful audio tool
Based around the vintage EMI REDD47 valve designs we have adapted and added some features to make this a very unique tool for modern recordings and studios. As well as the classic high gain valve mic pre this can be used as a line gain stage, make-up gain stage, DI for Bass/Guitar and a distortion saturation colour box
You get a transformer balanced (vintage Sowter) XLR mic input with around 50dB gain at low noise and full audio bandwidth.Mic input level control after the input transformer to drive the high gain EF86 valve stage. This allows you to fine tune input using mics from very low levels up to powered high level types
Then a 3 way gain control which alters the feedback so has slight variations in tone, subtle but useful!
The output valve stage is an ECC88 line driver which runs a single ended output transformer to get the 600 ohm balanced output. This then has a multi way balanced output attenuation which reduces the hot line outputs. This is a very useful feature which allows you to hit the inputs very hard to saturate, compress, distort and colour up the sound. You can get a really nice smooth distortion with harmonics like this
A dedicated 48v Phantom power supply with LED and on/off switch, Phase reverse, Mic/Line input select, illuminated VU meter with an on/off control for when the outputs are attenuated.
A very cool looking machine housed in a portable lightweight enclosure with all connections on the rear. A standard 3 pin mains inlet socket for you to use your cable of choice (not supplied)
Output has an earth lift switch to help with unwanted ground loops
We can set these for your mains voltage when building up.
Please note we do build each unit by hand to perfect and get the specs correct before shipping. Please allow a little time for this ;)
Any questions drop me a message... lots of photos of the units over at FB if you want to see previous builds and customer units
