Moog Guitar – Paul Vo Collector's Edition, Emerald Green
A guitar that can hold a note forever, or stop it dead.
Moog Music built the Paul Vo Collector's Edition, and only 330 were made for the U.S. It's one of the most unusual electric guitars ever produced. Inventor Paul Vo's Moog Resonance Technology uses the pickups to put energy into the strings as well as read them. That opens up sounds a normal guitar can't make: endless sustain, notes that swell in from silence, and tight, staccato mutes, with no EBow, feedback loop or synth module involved.
The look. A two-piece mahogany body with a AAAAA quilted maple top, finished in a deep Emerald Green that turns rich and three-dimensional under stage lights. Gold and black hardware sets off the green, and the ebony fingerboard has an inlay at the 12th fret. It's a collector's piece you'll want to hang on the wall, but you'll end up playing it.
The sound. A 3-position Moog Mode switch picks the guitar's behavior:
• Full Sustain: notes ring for as long as you hold them, so you can play cello-like lines, organ-style pads and feedback-free drones at any volume.
• Controlled Sustain: the strings sit still until you play, then bloom.
• Mute: a tight, synth-like pluck, good for funky, percussive and sequencer-style parts.
A built-in Moog ladder filter with LFO adds the classic Moog sweep. The included Moog Foot Controller lets you work the sustain and filter with your foot while your hands keep playing.
The guitar underneath. It has a maple set neck with a comfortable modified C profile and a 25½" scale. Two custom noise-canceling Moog pickups feed a 5-way selector. The Wilkinson tremolo has Graphtech piezo saddles, and a separate piezo output gives you an acoustic-style tone you can blend in. Turn the Moog circuit off and it's a responsive, high-quality electric guitar.
Included: the Moog Foot Controller and a custom-fitted tweed hardshell case.
Few guitars do something new. This one does, in one of its most striking finishes.
