The mid 80's Matsumoku Gakki Japan made (-1987, thereafter Samick) Vantage guitars are a shop favorite and we are always on the lookout for these for their massive value for money. They always deliver a tight punchy and responsive acoustic response and the original MMK pickups are warm, dynamic and articulate. In keeping with the times both pickups are splittable to deliver convincing and edgy single coil sounds. A phase switch completes the setup. Since this one has an natural wood, non-gloss matte finish, it has aged naturally and gracefully. The frets show some expected wear for an instrument of this age but it’s nothing that shows up while playing. Nonoriginal strap buttons an one changed tuner washer. Plays really easy.

The natural sound of these instruments is enhanced by hot, custom-engineered Vantage humbucking pickups. The Vantage VS695 guitar features a sophisticated electronic circuit with a coil tap switch for instant conversion to a thinner, biting sound and a phase switch for the characteristic “out of phase” sound favored by many of today’s players. The Vantage VS695B Series bass is designed for the bass player who wants a natural “look”, plenty of bottom and topp-end clarity and definition.
