It is an instrument that redefines what can be expected at its price point—and in many respects clearly outperforms what a Fender Strat in the same price range (Mexican Player Plus or equivalent model) has to offer. From the moment you pick it up, the AZ26P1 makes one thing immediately clear: this guitar is designed to be played, not merely to look like an icon. The AZ Oval C neck profile in roasted maple with an ebony fingerboard offers a feel that combines smoothness, solidity, and precision, while remaining extremely comfortable even after long playing sessions—something many players find noticeably more comfortable than the modern C profile found on Mexican Strats. This ergonomics is further enhanced by the Super All Access neck joint, which virtually eliminates resistance when reaching the highest frets, making fast runs and high-register solos feel fluid and natural.Sonically, the AZ26P1’s advantage lies not only in its versatility but also in the intrinsic quality of its components. The Seymour Duncan Hyperion H-S-S pickups fitted to this Ibanez are not generic copies; they are branded pickups from a well-respected specialist manufacturer, capable of delivering clear, articulate, powerful tones across a wide range of styles without requiring immediate upgrades—something that is not always true of stock pickups on many Strat Player models. What truly sets the AZ26P1 apart is the richness of its tonal options combined with high-end hardware. Not only does the dyna-MIX9 switching system with Alter Switch offer a tonal palette that most standard Strats simply do not provide, but all of the hardware—from the Gotoh T1502 bridge to the Gotoh MG-T locking tuners—has been selected for precision, tuning stability, and long-term durability, whether on stage or in the studio. When compared directly to a Fender Strat in the same price range, the contrast becomes even clearer:Fit and finish: the AZ Premium feels like a meticulously crafted instrument inside and out, with a glossy finish and wood quality that goes well beyond the bare minimum.Playing comfort: modern ergonomics, body contours, and easy access to the upper frets deliver a more “natural” playing experience for today’s guitarist—something many players find harder to achieve on entry-level Strats.Pickups and versatility: where entry- or mid-range Strats often come with rather basic pickups that may need upgrading to truly shine, the AZ26P1 arrives with a highly capable configuration that performs excellently straight out of the box.In short, this Ibanez feels like it was designed for guitarists who actually play, not just for those who want an iconic shape on the wall. It offers a rare combination at this price point: outstanding playability, detailed finishes, quality electronics, and genuine tonal versatility. For many players (advanced amateurs or semi-professionals), it is this balance of comfort, performance, and build quality that makes the IBANEZ AZ26P1-BK Premium not just equal to a comparable Fender Strat—but clearly superior in overall experience.
