Mark Speer is the creative mind behind the atmospheric guitar sound of the Texan band Khruangbin. With a mixture of soul, funk, psychedelic rock and world music influences, he has been shaping his very own style for years. Mark Speer uses a classic Fender Stratocaster for his special sound, both live and in the studio, which is now being launched in its own version as a signature model. Equipped with high-quality tonewoods, reliable hardware components and a clear commitment to the vintage look, the signature model combines classic Stratocaster elements with practical features that impress in terms of sound, feel and aesthetics.
Natural ash body, comfortable neck and vintage hardwareThe body made from selected ash has a transparent natural finish that brings out the fine grain of the wood. The neck was also designed with playability and vintage flair in mind: The maple neck with custom C-profile ensures a comfortable hand position for both chords and solos. In combination with the maple fingerboard, a vintage radius of 7.25" and 21 jumbo frets, the result is a smooth playing feel with excellent control when bending in high registers. White custom details such as the pickguard, controls and string saddle underline the clean, stylish look of this Stratocaster.
Tonal versatility thanks to DiMarzio pickups and center single coilAt the heart of the Mark Speer sound is the unique pickup configuration: two DiMarzio Pro Track DP 188 humbuckers in the neck and bridge position deliver a warm, fat humbucker sound! That's right: although they appear in single-coil format, they are twin-blade humbuckers with a wide sound image. This setup is complemented by a vintage-style '70s Strat single coil in the middle position, which provides bell-like mids and the typically assertive Strat sound. The classic 5-way switching allows all sound combinations to be used versatilely - including the intermediate positions with a slight phase effect popular with Speer.
