John Birch Hyperflux Vintage 1970's Pickup

      Extremely hard to come by pickup, made by the late great John Birch in Birmingham UK! These pickups were used on John Birch custom guitars, as well as an upgrade to many other guitars during the 70's. Hyperflux pickups were often bridge models, however Tony Iommi used one in the neck position of his custom John Birch SG on the Never Say Die, Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules albums. Loads of other UK players such as Slade were users. Ritchie blackmore had a pair fitted into one of his John Birch customized strats around 1974. The pickups are a unique size, slightly wider than a P90 because of the flanges on the casing, totally unlike the current John Birch pickups of today, which are a totally different size and construction.  Even Gibson's insanely expensive Iommi Monkey guitar doesnt use vintage correct pickups. The original pickups coils are encased in epoxy, utilizing Cobalt Steel magnets and Stainless Steel casings.


I bought this from a UK dealer a few years back. Full working condition. I don't have a multimeter but I've included a link to a demo showing it's functionality. Generally Hyperflux are about 10 to 11k Ohms. Cosmetically good condition, however one row of pole screws seem to have been replaced, as well as new pickup leads. Also included is the original mounting ring, which has a small split, but doesn't affect mounting. Old Butyrate rings are brittle and prone to breaking unfortunately... The tone is similar to a hotter PAF, in that it cleans up very well when you roll back the volume control. Original 1970's Birch pickups don't come up for sale often. This would be great for a Sabbath fan, JB guitar restoration or to give your guitar some vintage Birmingham flair! Any questions at all please feel free to ask, thanks for looking!
